Emma's Choice by Loretta Porter pulled me in right away. My heart ached for Emma as she grieved. I identified with the desire to run away to a new place and start over where no one knows what one has experienced. I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for the sequel. The author put a lot of research into British quips and landmarks that added to the authenticity of the book.
This is one of those books that grip you right from the start. It was an easy read and makes you ponder how you would handle such situations.
This books takes my worst nightmare and puts it into the life of Emma. I really put myself into Emma's place - and it was really hard to do. I loved this book. It takes heartache and shows that there is life after tragedy. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel.
I liked this book although I cried through the first few chapters and then some. The feelings she went through seemed so real but I did not get a feeling of her family's sorrow as they were so focused on her. I thought her move was smart but wonder if she will have female friends in the next book. I think a mature female friend would give the book more depth. Still, I look forward to the sequel.
"Emma's Choice" is a wonderful book. The characters are so real that I could actually feel with, and for, them as I was reading along. I am delighted to know that there is a second, and then a third, book in this series. The death of loved ones is a difficult subject for anyone to deal with, but how "Emma" does it is beautifully and touchingly portrayed by her author in this novel. Excellent work of art !!
At first I found it really emotionally draining as I really identify with the main character in the book. In this case it was especially difficult to read as I lost my first son at age 3. However as I continued to read I found that it became a very uplifting book. One of my favorite sayings is, " This too shall pass." Emma's strength of character and all of her support systems show the readers just how strong the human spirit can be and her forgiveness was especially meaningful. Also the message that one should never be distracted while driving i.e. texting, etc. is a good message to get across to people.
This is probably the first book I have read since I got my kindle that I started bawling through from the first few chapters. It starts with a terrible happening, one which is everyone's worst nightmare.
I thought the rest of the story was a little slow in that there was so much mundane detail about Emma's everyday life, but her emotions are well shown and the time lines seem to be well thought out. Emma's relationship with her twin is very well documented.
When I finished the book, I was disappointed to discover that the next in the series has not yet been published. I shall definitely read it.
